A recent informal poll of our staff taken at a lunch meeting at Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant revealed some surprising results. Firstly, it pointed out that we spend dozens of hours a week either streaming entertainment, or looking for more. Frankly, we were shocked that it wasn’t much more. Secondly, the results made it clear that we absolutely love Moo Goo Gai Pan.
The massive world of entertainment brings us more options than ever for where and how we can get our movies, TV shows, music, and a heckuva lot more. Lots of folks still buy DVDs and Blu-Rays, but more and more seem to be heading in the direction of dropping the excessive hardware, and availing themselves of the myriad streaming options that are now easily and cheaply accessible to almost everyone.
Even a college student can afford a monthly subscription to Hulu Plus, to use one example we’re partial to. In between studying, partying, calling mom and dad for money, the monthly washing of laundry, ordering delivery pizza, and of course, googling research subjects, there’s more than enough to watch to fill in those rare “not so busy” moments. And for $8, it’s well within the college budget for most students.
I almost forgot. We did a poll. Here are the results we got from our staff when we asked “Why do you Hulu?” And could you please pass me the soy sauce?
(*Please note that these are not the real names of our staff. I was forced to make up new monikers for each of them due to that whole “incident” at the local P.F. Chang’s in November.*)
Pete – Hulu opens up a whole new world of entertainment. For $8 a month the possibilities are endless. I mean, I could write a book about Hulu. They’re awesome, amazing, and you can stream from just about anywhere and with just about any device. I remember one time… (This is when we stopped listening because the entree’ arrived, and because frankly, Pete is one boring dude.)
Albert – I like Hulu because if I forget to bookmark the site, it’s really easy to remember “Hulu.” That “Netflicks place” is just so hard to keep track of.
Chiquita – Hola. Que es el Hulu? (Our intern from Ecuador is still getting the hang of things around here.)
Lola – My laptop has a 17″ HD screen so movies from Hulu Plus look gorgeous. Being able to easily watch my shows when I want to is awesome. I’m all caught up on “Grey’s Anatomy” now and I’m not sure what to watch next. I hear Modern Family is great but I’m not sure if I have time to follow another show. I guess if it’s important you should make time. Excuse me, I have to go cancel some appointments.
Our poll results found that all of our staff enjoy Hulu (at least those who know what it is) and use it in different ways, and also that we are totally incapable to focus on one topic for more than a few minutes, especially when food is present.
So why do you Hulu? Drop us a line in the comment section and let us know. And remember, never, ever order the Schezuan Chicken unless you REALLY like it spicy.
